The exhibition invites visitors to take a fresh look at the pieces that make up the University of Navarra Museum Collection, including the legacy of Navarran collector María Josefa Huarte. The exhibition is divided into four different sections, dedicated to figurative art, the wall as a space for creation, informal abstraction, and geometric abstraction.

Following an initial presentation of the collection in 2015, organized according to authors, the layout of this new exhibition allows visitors to explore figuration, the wall as a space for creation, informal abstraction, and geometric abstraction through the works in the collection. The exhibition brings together works by artists such as Jorge Oteiza, Pablo Palazuelo, Antoni Tàpies, Pablo Picasso, and Mark Rothko, among others. It also displays works from the collection that have never been shown before, including pieces by Manuel Gómez Raba, Elena Asins, Tsuguharu Foujita, and Jaime Burguillos. This new layout, which is structured around the legacy of María Josefa Huarte, allows for dialogue and interrelation between the different works and authors that make up the University of Navarra Museum Collection. The incorporation of new pieces, which complement, contextualize, and help to understand the previously exhibited works, allows the collection to transcend the private nature of the original donation and be presented in a museum setting. |
The initial 47 pieces by 18 different artists collected by María Josefa Huarte have been joined by new works focused mainly on abstraction, which tell us about Spanish contemporary art from the 1950s to the present day, allowing us to trace the construction and perception of the image during this period through the works on display.

The María Josefa Huarte Collection
In 2008, María Josefa Huarte donated her collection to the University of Navarra, leading to the creation of the University of Navarra Museum, designed by Rafael Moneo.
This volume brings together the legacy and its particularities.
