No turning back. Cecilia Paredes

No Return is a project born from Cecilia Paredes' reflections, through artistic experiences, on universal themes that affect human beings and their relationship with the natural and cultural environment. Through different forms of artistic expression, the artist explores history to focus on ideas such as memory or the human desire for redemption and correction of mistakes over time, linked to the concept of power, religion, or women.

Masterclass with Cecilia Paredes: 7:00 p.m.

THE ARTIST

Cecilia Paredes

Cecilia Paredes (Lima, Peru, 1950) lives and works between Philadelphia (USA) and Lima. She has lived for several years in Mexico City, Rome (Italy), and San José (Costa Rica). Since 2005, she has lived in Philadelphia, where she currently resides. Migration, relocation, and nature are central themes in her artistic discourse.

Cecilia constructs objects from discarded and found natural elements, recycling them and reinventing their own language. She also performs using body paint or any other resource to create anthropomorphic images and transform herself into animals, plants, or landscapes. These acts are recorded photographically, creating what she calls her photo-performances.

She studied Fine Arts at the Catholic University of Lima, the Cambridge Arts and Crafts School in England, and the Scuola del Nudo in Rome, Italy. She is a 1998 Rockefeller Foundation Fellow.

His work has been shown in solo exhibitions internationally, is included in important collections, and has received numerous awards.
