To mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Ávila this year and the 300th anniversary of the Royal Spanish Academy, José Luis Gómez, director of the Teatro Abadía and member of the Academy, created the project "Cómicos de la lengua" (Comedians of the Language) to celebrate 850 years of the Spanish language, giving a living voice to ten modular texts that have marked the history of our literature.

Written by Teresa of Ávila, this is one of the readings in the "Cómicos de la lengua" series, in which actress Julia Gutiérrez Caba, accompanied by José Luis Gómez, recreates the phonetics and historical musicality of Teresa of Ávila's mystical work. The reading intersperses prose and verse from works such asThe Interior Castle, TheBook of Her Life, and her poetry.

In the words of the Royal Spanish Academy, "Written by Teresa of Ávila" shows us "the poetic immensity achieved by the oral tradition of the language when captured in writings that reflect a continuous, genuine, and transcendent search for expression."
