Orchestra encounter. University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra and Sodre Youth Orchestra

August 27, 28, and 29, 2022

The only stop in Spain for the SODRE National Youth Orchestra. The ensemble will share working sessions with the University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra, with joint activities at the Museum, where both orchestras will be able to exchange experiences and reflections on music and university education.

Over the course of three days, both groups will work on a repertoire and rehearse the pieces for the concert they will give on August 30 at the Museum, a welcome concert for new students and their families, prior to the European tour that the Uruguayan group will undertake, which is also open to the general public.

SODRE NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA
The Sodre Youth Orchestra was formed in 2011 as a result of a partnership between Sodre and the Uruguayan Youth and Children's Orchestra System Foundation, and has become one of the main symbols of the new administration. Comprising more than 100 young musicians from different parts of the country and conducted by the renowned maestro Ariel Britos, it is a flexible structure that takes on alternative repertoires such as tango, candombe, salsa, and even rock.

Today, it is based opposite the Sodre National Auditorium, Dr. Adela Reta, where it holds its Main Concert Season. With more than 50 concerts a year, the Youth Orchestra has won over audiences, twice winning the National Award for Citizen Excellence from the Latin American Development Center.

Since its inception, the Sodre Youth Orchestra has strived to become a benchmark in the academic field, providing young Uruguayan musicians with high-level musical training. It is a young and dynamic ensemble, committed to society through culture. Inclusion is one of its main challenges, and it works with the ongoing goal of making the Youth Orchestra a national institution.

UNIVERSITY OF NAVARRA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra is made up of university-aged students. Each academic year, it offers students from the university and other institutions the opportunity to train and belong to a high-quality symphony orchestra. Conducted by Borja Quintas, its activities take place throughout the academic year under the guidance of leading professionals from the music scene and culminate in public performances.

Inspired by the orchestras of the most prestigious universities in the United States and Central Europe, its aim is to enhance the role of the arts and music in the university environment and establish itself as a leading youth orchestra. It also aims to strengthen links and exchanges with other national and international universities through music.
