University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra Concert
Following its debut in April 2017, the University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra faces its second professional challenge: a gala concert organized by the Columbus Foundation, sharing the stage with internationally renowned soloists such as María José Montiel, Eduardo Sandoval, and Marcelo Puente.

A charity concert in collaboration with the Columbus Foundation in aid of children with cancer and rare diseases. The concert program will take the audience on a journey through some of the most famous arias and duets in the operatic repertoire and will be performed both at the orchestra's headquarters, the University of Navarra Museum, and at the Victoria Eugenia Theater in San Sebastián. This will be the group's first performance outside of Navarra.
Various teachers collaborated in the rehearsal process: Juan Luis Gallego and Juan Ignacio Emme on strings, coordinated by Juan Mira, and André Cebrián and Rodolfo Epelde on wind instruments, coordinated by Santiago Blanco and José Lozano. All under the artistic direction of Borja Quintas. Ramón Tébar will also be present as Guest Conductor for the concert in San Sebastián.

University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra The University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra is a new project that aims to offer university students the opportunity to train and belong to a high-quality symphony orchestra. Inspired by the orchestras of the most prestigious universities in the United States and Central Europe, its aim is to enhance the role of the arts and music in the university environment and establish itself as a leading youth orchestra. It also aims to strengthen links and exchanges with other national and international universities through music. |

María José Montiel. Mezzo-soprano Winner of the 2015 National Music Award, she was born in Madrid and, after training in her hometown, moved to Vienna to further her studies, beginning a career that has led her to debut on the world's most important stages, such as the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Opéra National de Paris, the Wiener Staatsoper, La Scala in Milan, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Teatro de La Maestranza in Seville, the Teatro de La Zarzuela and the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, among others.

Ángel Luis Quintana. Cello He was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he began his musical studies with maestros Jaimez Medina and J.A. García. He continued his training in Madrid with E. Correa and obtained top marks in cello and chamber music. He has won first prize in various national competitions (Juventudes Musicales, Dirección General de Música y Teatro). He regularly participates in prestigious chamber music series with groups such as Plural Ensemble, Zarabanda, and Camerata Sa Nostra, and in international festivals such as Presences 2000 (Paris), A Tempo (Caracas), Dublin, USA, etc. He has also been principal cellist with the RTVE Orchestra and the Reina Sofía Chamber Orchestra, professor at the Guadalajara Conservatory, and assistant professor of the Sony Cello Chair directed by Maestro Frans Helmerson at the Reina Sofía School. He was a professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón until June 2011. He is currently the principal cellist of the Spanish National Orchestra, a professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, and a guest professor at the Rotterdam Conservatory. He is a member of the Faculty of Music Professors in Compostela and recently joined the A. Janigro International Jury (Croatia). He plays a J. Guadagnini "Il Soldato" instrument from 1800, on loan from the COLUMBUS FOUNDATION. |

Borja Quintas. Director Artistic Director of the JMJ Symphony Orchestra and Choir, Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Conservatory of Music of Aragon and at the Katarina Gurska Conservatory in Madrid. He studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with Professor Vladimir Ponkin and at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid with Professor Joaquín Soriano. He has been invited to conduct some of the world's most important orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the New Russia Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has worked in a wide variety of genres, including intensive opera work in Russia, accompanying singers of the stature of María Bayo, María José Montiel, and Alexander Vedernikov, and paying special attention to 20th- and 21st-century music, leading the Studio for New Music Ensemble in Moscow and conducting numerous premieres. In Spain, he has done important work with young symphony orchestras, including the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the Community of Madrid Youth Orchestra, the JMJ Symphony Orchestra, and many others. He has also conducted choral groups such as the Orfeón Donostiarra and the Escolanía de El Escorial. In his symphonic programs, he has shared the stage with soloists such as Oxana Yablonskaya, Valery Sokolov, Gustavo Díaz-Jerez, Nikita Borisoglebsky, and Alexander Trostiansky. |
