Masterclass with Hamish Fulton - Exposure Time

Thu, Mar 24 / 7:00 p.m.

Free admission upon collection of invitation

Hamish Fulton (London, 1946) is a walking artist. Since 1972, he has been creating works based on the experience of walking. Arguing that "walking is an art form in its own right," Fulton translates his walks into photographs, drawings, and wall texts that allow the viewer to become involved in his experience. His work is included in the collections of major museums such as Tate Britain, MoMA, the Guggenheim in New York, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Tokyo. Over the last 30 years, he has walked through more than 25 countries, and since 1994 he has begun to organize group walks.

Through his work, Fulton seeks to align humans with nature without exploiting or altering it. He highlights not only the artistic possibilities of walking, but also its history and importance as a means of transportation, a way of connecting communities, and a spiritual tool.

Marching, walking, is a traditional means of protest, and Fulton has created works that demonstrate support for environmental issues, as well as the plight of Australian Aborigines, Native Americans, and the people of Tibet.

Fulton's work directly addresses our relationship with nature, issues of environmental danger, and important causes such as the Chinese occupation of Tibet—everyday topics that, over the years, have proven to be worthy of increasingly vital reflection.
