Theory and Practice of Playwriting
A workshop designed for people interested in developing their playwriting skills to turn their ideas into theater. This workshop is a "toolbox" for approaching playwriting. Learn dramaturgy techniques that enable talent and inspiration to take shape in theatrical forms. At the heart of this proposal are curiosity, poetry, and writing.

JANUARY 22: BASIC ELEMENTS OF PLAYWRITING A - Brief theoretical overview. Plots and subplots. The parts and the whole. Rhythm and conflict. Synthesis. Turning points. Collective creation. What story to tell. B - Main differences and similarities between Classical Theater and Contemporary Theater
JANUARY 29: FROM THE MIND TO PAPER A - In the author's own words; Example: reading of a short contemporary work ("Anyone can slip") Analysis and comments. B - Presentation of proposals that participants have already brought with them and wish to turn into plays or theatrical texts. Practical assessment and advice. |

FEBRUARY 5 AND 12: CARPENTRY OF THE THEATRICAL TEXT A - Reading and evaluation of the work produced by participants in "first drafts." B- Theatrical finish.
FEBRUARY 19: THE AUTHOR FACES HIS WORK A - The group, including the tutor, will voice the characters in the readings of the different works. Only the author themselves will not be able to participate in their own. They will listen to it and draw their own conclusions or ask themselves questions. B- Epilogue: Brief general notes on the relationship between dramaturgy, production, and staging. |

Carlos Bernal He is one of the most prolific Spanish-language writers thanks to his insight into the human condition today and his mastery in bringing to life situations and characters rich in interpretive possibilities. He became an actor at the Teatro Experimental de Cali alongside Enrique Buenaventura between 1968 and 1978, and for the past 24 years he has been working in Spain and Germany as a director, teacher, and playwright. He works with companies such as the Teatro Experimental de Cali, directed by Enrique Buenaventura, Der Alcaravan Theater in Germany, Tornedals-Teatern in Sweden, Uroc Teatro, Gayo Vallecano, Centro Dramático Español, and Teatro de los Sentidos in Spain. He has taught workshops at Georg August University and Wolkshohchschule in Germany, SGAE, the University of Granada, the Royal School of Dramatic Arts in Spain, the University of Bogotá, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of California, and the University of North Carolina, among other places. |
