Cyprien Katsaris and Pablo Galdo take us on a journey through the piano as a solo instrument, beginning with Franz Liszt's beautiful pieces for piano inspired by Hungarian music, including The Bells of Geneva, whose score the composer annotated with a quote from Byron: "I do not live in myself, but become part of my surroundings."

Mozart's Fantasy for Mechanical Organ, arranged for two pianos, opens a musical program that covers Bizet's popular Carmen and Ravel's Bolero, and includes Milhaud's Scaramouche. A journey through the best romantic music inspired by popular Hungarian, Brazilian, and Spanish melodies.

Cyprien Katsaris

Cyprien Katsaris (Marseille, 1951), a French-Cypriot pianist and composer, began playing the piano at the age of four in Cameroon, where he spent his childhood. He graduated from the Paris Conservatory with the highest honors and soon began to win important international awards.

He has collaborated with conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sir Neville Marriner, Sir Simon Rattle, and MyungWhunChung, among others from a long list that includes the world's finest. He has been the star of legendary performances in tributes to Chopin (New York, 1999), Mozart (Mannheim, 2006), and Liszt (Weimar, 2006). He has also repeatedly starred in recordings of his live concerts. He is a regular member of juries at international competitions and gives master classes at the world's finest conservatories. 

Katsaris has recorded extensively for Teldec, Sony Classical, EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, BMG-RCA, Decca, Pavane, and now on his own label, PIANO 21. His discography consists of solo works by most of the major composers, as well as works for piano and orchestra. He has also recorded, as world premieres, long-lost works by Liszt/Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Mahler.

His work has been distinguished and recognized with the following awards: UNESCO Artist for Peace (1997), Commander of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (2009), and Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (France, 2000). He is a member of ADAP, the Artists for Peace Association, and Honorary President of Lisztomanias International.

PABLO GALDO

Pablo Galdo is considered one of the most outstanding and internationally renowned Spanish pianists of his generation. Martha Argerich refers to him as "an excellent musician and a brilliant pianist." Tamás Vásáry also describes him as "an exceptional pianist with great technique and the musicality of a true artist," and French-Cypriot pianist Cyprien Katsaris says of him
"I was impressed by his musical and pianistic abilities; he is a first-class musician."

Born in Ferrol (La Coruña), he studied at the Vigo Conservatory, the F. Liszt Academy in Budapest, the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He received lessons from F. Rados, A. Kemenes, E. Wirssaladze, A. Larrocha, D. Bashkirov, T. Vasáry, D. Várjon, and I. Rohmann, among others. He has given concerts in more than 40 countries in Europe, Asia, America, and Oceania, both as a soloist and with orchestras, in prestigious concert halls and auditoriums, and at various festivals. He has recorded CDs for MANS with works by Bach, Liszt, Chopin, Albéniz, and Rachmaninoff. As a chamber musician, he has performed with musicians of the stature of Martha Argerich, Zoltán Kocsis, Stephen Kovacevich, Cyprien Katsaris, Tamás Vásáry, Philippe Entremont, Lilya Zilberstein, Asier Polo, and Susanne Barner, among others.

In his pedagogical role, he has given masterclasses at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Frederic Chopin Academy, the Tbilisi State Conservatory, the Sydney Conservatory, the Baremboim-Said Foundation, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, and the University of Hamburg, among many others. He is also a regular jury member at various international piano competitions, including the Edward Grieg, Vigo, Gerswin, Mozarte, Ferrol, and Petrof competitions, among others. He is the founder and artistic director of the City of Vigo International Piano Competition.

He was awarded the silver medal at the Global Music Awards in 2017 and 2018, as well as the Gregorio Baudot Music Award and the Gold Insignia of the city of Ferrol, and was named Galician of the Year 2021. He currently combines his concert activities with his position as professor at the Conservatory of Music of Navarra.
