The Bourgeois Gentleman
Morboria Teatro presents The Bourgeois Gentleman, by the renowned universal genius Molière, a hilarious comedy in five acts that offers a lavish, large-scale show full of rhythm, color, music, and dance.
This masterpiece of 17th-century French ballet comedy is transformed by Morboria Teatro into a complete show with references to the Musil Hall, the circus, and dance. Translated, adapted, and directed by Eva del Palacio, the play is a social satire that speaks of those who try to pass themselves off as something they are not through deception and appearances.

THE SHOW
El burgués gentilhombre was the first of the classic texts that Morboria brought to the stage 30 years ago and for which Eva del Palacio, its director, won the Ágora Award for Best New Director at the Almagro International Festival in 1995. The play had not been performed in Spain for almost 40 years, and after the success of this production, which ran for more than 200 performances, the comedy has returned to the Spanish theater repertoire.
After 20 years without staging it, the company recently decided to bring it back to life to mark its 30th anniversary. After more than 50 of its own shows, Morboria has become an expert in Molière, with five productions of his great works under its belt, earning it recognition, applause, and awards.
Molière's original text is a masterpiece of 17th-century French ballet comedy, written on commission from Louis XIV for the festivities that took place at the Château de Chambord on October 14, 1670. It served as entertainment for the Sun King in the most refined and spectacular court in Europe, and since 1680 it has been part of the regular repertoire of the Comédie Française, successfully performed over the centuries in many countries.
The work continues to remind us today that appearances, even if they are carefully crafted, are useless: "that there is something base about concealing the condition that heaven has given us, and that the world is full of ignorant people who behave as if they were divine."
Let's enjoy Molière's play and Morboria's staging of this comedy full of fun and entertainment, this lavish show full of rhythm, color, music, and dance with references to music hall, circus, and dance.

MORBORIA THEATER
For 30 years, Eva del Palacio and Fernando Aguado have been running the independent theater company Morboria together, always driven by their love of theater, dance, music, painting, art, and the creative side of human nature. Boldness, imagination, perseverance, hard work, sweat, and tears, but above all, laughter, lots of laughter, and constant playfulness have driven them forward in their career.
Morboria attaches as much importance to the text as to the aesthetic aspect, always striving for a complete spectacle. Movement, rhythm, characterization, makeup, and costumes are all part of a whole that serves the show. Since 1983, the Aguado brothers (Álvaro and Fernando) and the Del Palacio siblings (Eva, Ana, and Trajano) have maintained a design and production workshop that has given rise to impossible characterizations, monsters, fantastic beings, animals, princesses, mythological heroes, jesters, dragons, armor, dresses, and a thousand and one objects that have created the distinctive "house stamp" in their productions.
They have premiered more than 50 shows, including classic texts by Rojas, Zorrilla, Tirso de Molina, Shakespeare, Molière, Zorrilla, and Moreto, as well as contemporary plays and texts, street theater, children's theater, and performances. They have won several awards for best director, best show, best production, best actor, and more.
