Dance workshop with the Trisha Brown Dance Company

The dance company created by Trisha Brown is in the process of reinventing itself as an educational institution, offering workshops, demonstrations, and master classes to schools and arts centers. It will also have an online presence through a platform where users can access an interactive archive to view performances, rehearsal videos, Trisha Brown's sketchbooks, and interviews with the choreographer and other artists of the time.

This artistic legacy is much more than the work of Trisha Brown; it is the legacy of the phenomenon behind postmodern dance, which was born at the Judson Church Theater in the 1960s. Those dancers and choreographers from the Judson group challenged conventional dance, experimenting with non-narrative movement and integrating technology, visual arts, ambient music, and text.

This is a very special opportunity for anyone with dance experience, dancers, and choreographers who want to learn Trisha Brown's movements firsthand.

In “Trisha Brown: In Plain Site,” the audience experiences Brown’s work from a fresh perspective with programs curated to spaces.

The material Brown used in her creative process, along with the Early Works and Equipment Pieces, is reframed and released from the proscenium, creating an intimate relationship with the audience. These assembled site-specific programs provide a new lens through which to view Brown's vast body of work, demystifying its complexity through special dialogue and audience intimacy.

The partnership between the Presenter, our Associate Artistic Directors, the Dancers, and the Audiences becomes a collective team empowering and expanding the multi-generational response to the timeless rigor of Brown's legacy.
