New Ensemble. Technics

Nou Ensemble presents Technics, a reflection on the concepts of technique and technology applied to musical creation in our decade, offering a concert that blends sound installation and musical theater.

General admission: €12 and €8

THE CONCERT

Technics is the result of a reflection on the concepts of technique and technology and their application in musical composition. In the case of music, technique is understood as the rules relating to how to play an instrument, in both its physical and intellectual variants.

In Technics, the members of Nou Ensemble must develop a new tekné, in the sense of developing skills and adapting to reality: this is the case, for example, in the work Todos Caníbales [trio; 2016] by Fran MM Cabeza de Vaca, in which the performers, from a dramatic perspective, surround different instruments (cello, bass clarinet, and electric guitar), playing them simultaneously and thereby producing new sound relationships.

On the other hand, Technics considers the use of technology as a result of the practical application of technique in various ways: whether through the electronic transformation of the sound of a traditional instrument—the violin in Simon Steen-Andersen's work—the inclusion and foregrounding of non-sound elements—light in Íñigo Giner's work—or video as the main part of the musical discourse — Screen Sketch IV by Oscar Escudero — the use of everyday electronic objects such as neon tubes, as requested by Simon Loeffler in his piece b, or the conversion of metronomes into musical instruments, as in the work of Jose Pablo Polo, where learning the "instrumental" technique is simultaneous with the process of composition-interpretation.
