American and Latin American symphonic music of the 20th and 21st centuries

The Navarra Symphony Orchestra brings to the stage of the MUN a concert of Latin American rhythms from the 20th century that continue to resonate today: music composed by Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos, Argentine Astor Piazzolla, and Peruvian-American Gabriela Lena Frank, winner of a 2009 Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Classical Composition.

Beatriz Fernández Aucejo, a Valencian from Paiporta, conducts the Navarre Symphony Orchestra. Fernández, who has a promising and established career, with experience in conducting university orchestras, won the second edition of the "La Maestra" International Orchestral Conducting Competition in 2022, promoted by the Mozart Orchestra and the Philharmonie de Paris to promote the careers of women in orchestral conducting. This opportunity has given her a strong boost to her training at the "La Maestra" academy and to conducting important orchestras. She now comes to Pamplona to take the helm of the OSN in this project.

NAVARRA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

In its 140 years of existence, the OSN/NOS has been invited to perform at major concert halls, opera seasons, and festivals both in Spain and abroad. As a leading interpreter of Pablo Sarasate, its recording of the complete works of the famous Navarran composer with violinist Tianwa Yang was unanimously praised by international critics. Likewise, the series of recordings with maestro Antoni Wit constitutes one of the phonographic milestones in its history.

It currently presents an annual season of subscription concerts in Pamplona, Tudela, and Tafalla to audiences in Navarre and carries out important social and educational activities throughout the region through the Sinfónica en Navarra program. It collaborates with the University of Navarre Museum to co-produce contemporary music concerts.

Currently part of the Baluarte Fundazioa Foundation and financed mainly by the Government of Navarra, the Navarra Symphony Orchestra/Nafarroako Orkestra Sinfonikoa, founded by Pablo Sarasate in 1879, is the oldest active ensemble on the Spanish symphonic scene.
