Presence and absence, magic and perfection. The sublime beauty of the swan is accompanied by the tireless effort that sculpts the dancers' bodies.
Swan, Mar Aguiló's latest work—and the first choreography in her catalog in which she does not also participate as a dancer—intertwines a sincere and courageous autobiographical dimension with much broader reflections on the tradition of classical dance and its survival in our times.
As for Swan, a choreographed self-examination, much of its analytical power comes precisely from the author's decision (or rather necessity?) to establish, for the first time in her career, a distance between her body and the stage. We emphasize here the notion of the body—so important in the discourse of a work that presents it to us as already and always exhausted—because what Aguiló displaces from the space of representation is mainly its physicality, not its presence.
The Rimbaudian formula "Je est un autre" takes on anunusual meaning in Swan, as the other fundamental presence in the piece, that of the dancer Clémence Gross, encourages a game of mirrors that continually brings into play the notion—always slippery and ambiguous—of identity. Who is really dancing in Swan? Of course, here Gross is not—or not only—a projection of Aguiló, but how much of the Mallorcan artist's biography is embodied in every step, every gesture, that we see and hear in Swan?
These questions also resonate—as we anticipated—on a much larger level, a scale that even allows us to modulate that last question: how much of Mar Aguiló's biography—now confused with that of Clémence Gross—is her own, and how much responds to a severe tradition that has already spanned several centuries, as well as thousands of bodies and spirits?
Subjectivity and history, individual memory and collective tradition, originality and routine... Pairs of concepts that dance in Swan(it is already clear that this piece is certainly not a solo... nor even a duet: its protagonist is an entire dance troupe, full of ghosts).
The lake always welcomed many more swans—and much more varied ones—than certain stories have wanted to preserve, if we are willing to dive into waters that are much more turbulent than those same stories have tried to describe.

BIOGRAPHY
Mar Aguiló
Mar Aguiló's (Palma de Mallorca, 1987) choreographic projects are primarily inspired by her experience as a dancer: trained by Maurice Béjart in Lausanne (Switzerland), she was subsequently a member of the CND (Compañía Nacional de Danza de España) for more than fourteen years, which allowed her to work with figures such as William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, Mats Ek, and Ohad Naharin, among many others.
It was within the context of the CND that Aguiló presented her first choreographies: Arriaga, Afterlove, and Fandangos y tonadillas (the latter in collaboration with the National Classical Theater Company). She has also collaborated, as co-director and choreographer, with the dance production company ELAMOR, developing projects in venues in Madrid such as the Prado Museum, CentroCentro, CaixaForum, Fundación Mapfre, and Fundación Enaire, as well as at MACBA (Barcelona).
In 2021, he enjoyed a "Creative Residency" at the Teatros del Canal to create his first large-scale stage production, STELLA, which premiered at the Teatros del Canal itself. In 2022, he directed and choreographed the Max Awards gala held at the Teatre Principal in Mahón, as well as designer Juan Duyos' fashion show for Mercedes Fashion Week in Madrid. In 2023, the same year that she ended her long career as a performer with the CND, she presented SWAN, a solo performed by Clémence Gross (member of the Paris Opera Ballet) and co-produced by the Teatros del Canal and the Teatre Principal in Palma.
