The Umbrella Zarzuela Stage production project
Opera and zarzuela are the stage performances that involve the most technical and production complexity. In this case, it requires the coordination and synchronization of teams as diverse as a symphony orchestra, two choirs, several soloists, a cast of actors, tailors, makeup artists, and technicians, who work in sync under the direction of the stage director and musical director.
For the first time, Campus Creativo is offering students the opportunity to participate in a major interdisciplinary project that combines the skills and learning of three programs that have been consolidated over the years: the orchestra, the choir, and the theater training program. It also incorporates students from the Performing Arts Production program at the Faculty of Communication and the Design program at ETSA.
Furthermore, continuing with the long-standing tradition of collaborating with professionals, in this case the Gayarre Friends of the Opera Association (AGAO) joins the team, allowing students to learn directly from working alongside professionals.
Every week, from September until its premiere on April 5 and 6, the project participants will work under the supervision of professionals to make progress on the creation of LA ZARZUELA DE LOS PARAGUAS, an adaptation by Liuba Cid ofEl año pasado por agua, a work by Federico Chueca and Joaquín Valverde.
For the first time, the orchestra's conductor, Borja Quintas, will work with the choir and the orchestra in the pit. Liuba Cid, who is responsible for the theater training program, directs the stage and also provides acting coaching to the students.
They are joined by talented students from the Scenography program at ETSA, who collaborated on the design of the set.
The activities proposed by Campus Creativo to groups of students within this framework enable the development of essential skills for the world of work. The project itself challenges participants to tackle a complex production from a managerial, technical, and artistic perspective.
The project itself is a combination of talents, skills, professional experience, knowledge, and pedagogy that allows students to be offered a complex, comprehensive, and interdisciplinary project.
