Two lectures accompanied by a film screening and round table discussion to introduce us to theatrical costumes through fashion and classical theater in cinematic aesthetics.

DIANA FERNÁNDEZ GONZÁLEZ

Designer, educator, and researcher. Born in New York, United States. Graduated in 1972 with a degree in Theater Design from the National School of Art and in 1984 with a degree in Theater Studies from the Higher Institute of Art in Havana.

As a theater designer, she has created costumes for more than twenty productions. In the field of cinema, she has designed costumes for more than twenty feature films, short films, and television series, including La Bella del Alhambra, the series La botija (both awarded for best costumes at the UNEAC Film Festival in Havana, Caracol Award in 1990), and Algo más que soñar, a television series. Other works as a costume designer include: the series Curro Jiménez II, for SG Producciones and Antena 3, Cuarteto de La Habana by Fernando Colomo, Pata Negra by Luis Oliveros, and Roble de Olor by Rigoberto López, among others.

He has over thirty years of teaching experience. He has developed extensive work in the creation of study plans and programs on the History and Theory of Costume, Scenic Arts, and Costume Design at various educational institutions in Cuba and Spain.

She has participated as a guest speaker at scientific events, courses, conferences, and congresses in Cuba, Spain, and other countries such as Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Finland, and the Czech Republic. She has written and published articles and texts on her specialty, including: Costume: Glossary of Terms (1990), Costume: Fundamentals for Design on Stage (1991); Costume: Notes on its Historical Evolution (1991), Fashion in Dress: Considerations on its Communicative Value (1996). She is a regular contributor to magazines such as Arqueología del Siglo XXI, in which she has published more than 10 articles related to the history of costume. She has received awards and mentions for her research work.

Since 1992, she has organized and taught courses on the History and Theory of Costume and Fashion and Stage Costume Design at various Spanish institutions. Since 1997, she has been a professor at the Madrid Film and Audiovisual School (ECAM), teaching the course Costume in History and Film Fiction for the Art Direction specialization. She is also a collaborating professor at other educational centers, including: Carlos III University (Master's Degree in Fashion and Beauty Communication Vogue); Francisco de Vitoria University (Master's Degree in Fashion Journalism); and the Faculty of Architecture at the UPM (Master's Degree in Interior Architecture Design), among others.
