Oteiza. One-act opera by Juan José Eslava

In the form of a monodrama, this opera recreates the thinking of the artist from Guipúzcoa. The initial energy of being (desire, existential fear, searching...) develops through play, leading to aesthetic experiences linked to several of Oteiza's most significant works.

General admission: €14 and €12

Oteiza questions the notion of individuality through a journey in which the identity of a being finds its link with primal values (sky, earth, nature) in the void. The catalyst for this encounter is the Neolithic cromlech, a figure that Oteiza identifies in his reflection with the awareness of the void. The opera explores new links between the physical, acting, lighting, scenographic, and sound dimensions in a work of writing in which there are no boundaries between these elements, but rather new crystallizations in their forms of interaction, which take shape around the materials on which Oteiza based his sculptural work: iron, stone, and wood.

In the form of a monodrama lasting approximately one hour, the play revolves around an actor-singer who interacts with the elements on stage to recreate Oteiza's thinking. The actor-singer searches for himself, and that search for his identity encompasses a drama, a fundamental contradiction: he cannot find himself. The initial energy of being (desire, existential fear, search...) develops through play, leading to aesthetic experiences linked to several of Oteiza's most significant works, which are in turn linked to childhood memories and his experiential baggage.

The opera Oteiza aims to recover the artist's legacy and bring it to life on the theater stage.
