THE SHOW

Avalanche

Avalanche takes us to a world of dance confrontations and tells us above all about the inexorable passage of time. Dani Pannullo searches and explores on stage the meeting points of a world in which we hope that technology can reveal everything to us, but which nevertheless remains "the unknown" when it comes to human relationships.

This show presents the "deformed" beauty of our century and captures different moments in the life of a director eager to see and recognize himself in diverse worlds, who accepts that diversity and focuses above all on showing us —through physical language— how and why people move: from the most atavistic rituals of peoples to the complex presence of dance in cities with millions of inhabitants. The simple movement of hands or legs coexists with an in-depth study of the most current choreography.

As a natural part of this company's ideal, Pannullo, interested in the new forms of urban sports that are flourishing in cities today, includes in Avalanche, apart from the usual cast of dancers in his shows, a brand new modality that lies between control, the practice of sport, and a certain virtuosity; tricks, creativity, and style transformed into poetry on stage.

That "other form of dance," according to its director, is freestyle football. As it has done previously with b-boys, skaters, parkour, traceurs, and beatboxers, the company seeks to elevate these languages to the cultured stage, seeking the acceptance of new audiences who observe how the dancers pursue an inanimate object—the ball—like automatons, the upper, sit, and lower movements of the freestyler himself, thus creating two visions of movement on stage, as if deciphering certain bodily codes that bestow beauty in any of their forms.

THE COMPANY

Dani Pannullo was born in Río Negro in Argentine Patagonia. Trained in dance and theater in Buenos Aires and after extended periods of research in the US and JapanHe settled in Spain, where he has been living for more than twenty years, and it is in Madrid where he has developed his entire artistic career as a choreographer and stage director.

His inspiration has always been urban culture, to which he incorporates other dance forms he has encountered on his exploratory travels around the world, such as Japanese butoh, Egyptian dervish dancing, and flamenco, among others.

His company, created in 1999 with dancers from a wide variety of disciplines, has produced around twenty shows during its residencies at the Centro de Nuevos Creadores in Madrid and the Centro de Danza Canal, participating in national and international festivals representing contemporary creation both inside and outside Spain.
