Exotic. Mauricio Kagel
Six musicians from the Neopercursión ensemble, directed by Juanjo Guillém, will perform on more than one hundred percussion instruments in a concert held in collaboration with Colectivo E7.2.
General admission: €12 and €8
"Theatrical spirit, humor, and musical creativity" are on display in the performance of Exótica, a piece written by Mauricio Kagel between 1971 and 1972, staged on this occasion with a theatrical concept by stage director Pablo Ramos. The piece is composed for non-Western instruments and voice, mixing recordings from different musical traditions with live performance. As stated in the introduction to the show, "From naive fascination to condescending caricature, Exótica brings to the stage the grotesqueness of our perception of the world, inviting the audience to travel to the confines of the construction of musical identity."
Exótica was written for non-Western instruments and voice. Each performer becomes both an instrumentalist and a singer, in the manner of traditional musicians. Mauricio Kagel explains: "In Exótica , I did not want to incorporate exotic modes, figures, or rhythms in a cultured way, but rather in a wild, natural, raw state (...). With Exótica, we are constantly suspended above an exhilarating precipice, nothing to do with ethnic music, nor with the serial combination of contemporary music (...)."
Mixing musical recordings from the most diverse traditions with live performance, challenging Western musicians to play instruments of varied origins, invoking disguised voices and unheard-of sounds, Exótica is a unique work where theatrical spirit and humor combine with musical creativity.
Nearly forty years after its composition, and at a time when the question of cultural fusion and its necessary reconciliations is in the spotlight, Exótica offers a special reflection on the music of others.

E7.2
E7.2, a group of musicians, artists, and cultural managers dedicated to contemporary music.
E7.2 includes Pilar Fontalba, Pablo Ramos, Juan José Eslava, Leandro Suárez, and Salva Tarazona. All of them contribute, from their specific fields, their experience, reflection, artistic criteria, and personal involvement in the international art context, with a high level of professionalism and the premise of taking on the challenge of contributing to this context, from the city of Pamplona, a space for creation, reflection, education, and innovative artistic development.
Furthermore, it is conceived as a crossroads: performers, composers, sound artists, visual artists, choreographers, thinkers, and educators will address issues proposed by the collective, generating vectors that ensure continuity over time and, therefore, a profound impact on the cultural life of Pamplona, as well as the opportunity to delve deeper into the issues addressed.
The aim is to implement a series of proposals that, in collaboration with the city's living structures (Museum of the University of Navarra, Oteiza Museum, Huarte Contemporary Art Center, Museum of Navarra, Pamplona City Council, Government of Navarra, Gayarre Theater, etc.), will enable to carry out a stable and continuous program in the field of contemporary music, including local, national, and international proposals.
