Sergi Aguilar i Sanchis (Barcelona, 1946) is a sculptor, goldsmith, draftsman, and photographer. His early works were in bronze, brass, and marble, with a post-minimalist style influenced by Russian constructivism and the work of sculptors such as Julio González, Jorge Oteiza, Eduardo Chillida, and Constantin Brâncusi. Nature and geometry are particularly important in his work, concepts from which he develops his idea of space, through which he establishes a dialogue between the object and its surroundings.
His work can be found in the finest museums and contemporary art galleries, such as the Guggenheim Museum, MACBA, MNCARS, Kunsthalle Mannheim, La Caixa Foundation, and Juan March Foundation. He was president of the AAVC (Association of Visual Artists of Catalonia) between 1996 and 2002, and of the UAAV (Union of Visual Artists Associations) between 2004 and 2007. He is currently director of the Suñol Foundation in Barcelona.
