Program notes

Playwrights, musicians, and writers throughout history have written about the myth of Don Juan. His many faces and reflections reveal a womanizer, a cautious adventurer, a loyal traitor, an honest liar, a romantic bandit... All of society's masks concentrated in a single dramatic character. From the everyday to the metaphysical, from the conscious to the subconscious, Don Juan will share a night of broken promises, romances, and confessions; Tirso's Don Juan, who lives in El Burlador de Sevilla y Convidado de Piedra with honor and dishonor, José Zorrilla's Tenorio of José Zorrilla, romantic hero of love and repentance, dominated by the conquest of feeling over reason, and Molière's Molière's Don Juan, with his ingenuity in achieving the ultimate theatricalization of love through cynicism and hypocrisy, all invite us to participate in the collective ritual of theater to spend a night between heaven and hell, mystery and the beauty of words.
