NEW ADDITIONS TO THE COLLECTION
The Museum's exhibition "New Additions" displays a selection of 37 works that have been added to the collection thanks to recent donations and acquisitions. The most recent addition comes from the Mexican Gómez Laresgoiti family.
Alongside the above pieces, the museum is also presenting the legacies of three important 20th-century photographers. These include six photographs by Rafael Sanz Lobato, who donated his entire collection to the museum, comprising around 3,500 photographs and nearly 70,000 negatives. The donation of José Antonio Aizpurua's archive, consisting of 137 originals, two sketchbooks by the artist, and his collection of negatives, will be represented by four photographs. Finally, the addition of 105 photographic prints by Martín Chambi, the most emblematic Peruvian photographer of the 20th century, is also of great importance, representing the growing presence of Latin American art in the Museum's collection. Four photographs by this artist will be on display in the gallery.
Works acquired by the Museum will also be on display, including a daguerreotype and four salted paper prints by Alphonse De Launay, an albumen print by Charles Clifford, and a photograph by Inge Morath. Other pieces received through donations will also be on display, including a photograph by Antoni Arissa donated to the Museum in 2016; three photographs by Josep Sala, an artist from the Catalan avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century, recently loaned by a private collector; a photograph by Carlos Irijalba, donated by the Padula-Blohm Foundation; and a selection of works donated by Javier Vallhonrat and Cristina de Middel, recently exhibited at the Museum. Other works recently added to the Collection are those produced by Pierre Gonnord and Manolo Laguillo as part of the Tender Puentes artistic creation program promoted by the Museum.
