From the UN to the plate. Art you can 'taste'

Yesterday, around thirty chefs from Navarre enjoyed a tour of the MUN Collection to find inspiration for their creations for the upcoming Navarre Tapas Week. The University of Navarre Museum and the Navarre Hospitality and Tourism Association held an event focusing on art and cuisine in the region, which attracted around 500 students.

(Taste Navarra, taste the MUN!), together with presenter Cristina Ochoa.

The connection with tradition, a taste for beauty, and the search for an experience are some of the elements that connect art and cuisine. This was demonstrated yesterday at the MUN, which, in collaboration with the Navarre Hospitality and Tourism Association, organized a tour of its permanent collection for more than thirty chefs. The aim is to introduce them to works of art from an inspirational perspective, so that their creations for the upcoming Pincho Week in Navarra combine gastronomy and art. In the words of the Association's manager, Nacho Calvo, it is an opportunity to "discover new artistic perspectives."

Afterwards, chefs from Snob Cocktails & Food, La Escalerica Centro, El Bosquecillo, and Akari Gastroteka took to the stage at the MUN Theater to offer show cooking demonstrations of the dishes that earned them finalist spots in the 25th Navarre Tapas Week. They did so during the event "Saborea Navarra, saborea el MUN!" (Taste Navarra, taste the MUN!), in which they 'performed' before almost 500 university students from different regions and other countries. There was also a special mention for La Modelo Craft Beer & Food which, although unable to attend, received the Museum's award for the most artistic pincho at the last Pincho Week.

"It has been very exciting to cook in such a unique space as the MUN, surrounded by art and in a format that has allowed us to share our creativity with the public. The pincho I made was a tribute to local produce and the richness of our land. It combines gastronomic tradition with the wild spirit of Navarre and shows how cooking can also be a form of artistic expression. The combination of the museum visit and the show cooking has been a great experience, which has inspired us to continue cooking," says Goiza Isiegas, chef at Akari Gastroteka. Nacho Calvo agrees, pointing out that "this event has enriched the Navarre hospitality industry by fusing culture and gastronomy, and at the same time, it has brought together dozens of professionals at the MUN to enjoy a truly inspiring experience."

During the meeting, students also learned about everything that awaits them at the MUN. The Museo en Danza cycle includes shows such as the large-scale production with live music Noces —a co-production by the MUN with Led Silhouette from Navarre and the Pamplona Chamber Choir (October 31)—or the presence of urban and robotic dance with Famulus 4.0by Iron Skulls (November 11). The opportunity to visit exhibitions curated by young curators (graduates of the MUN's Master's Degree in Curatorial Studies) such as Dear viewer, what are you looking at?, with free admission, as with all other exhibitions throughout 2025 thanks to the support of Pamplona City Council. Or the opportunity to become a member of the University of Navarra Orchestra or Choir, unravel the secrets of opera with offerings such as "Take a peek at opera. La Traviata explained"(October 1), or participate in musical, theater, or drawing workshops.

"We want you to feel that MUN is yours, that it is your home," concluded artistic director Teresa Lasheras.
